What do you see?

From the desk of Caspar

Do you recall seeing one of those grids of letters and being asked to say what word jumps out at you?

I’m reminded of this when I switch on my digital view of the world. Like most of us, my contact with the world has been driven largely through an internet connection over the past three months.

Our own unique view of the world will be driven by what we allow to influence us - what we allow in. The front pages of news sites and social media have been dominated by Corona Virus, George Floyd, Black Lives Matter and the talk of imminent recession to name a few.

We all though have our innate filter on what we see. Mine is that I scan and focus on what’s positive, whats good and where is there an opportunity to help the world.

Just today, I’ve scanned a fund (Wing Ventures) raised in the US to back early stage businesses who are already looking for opportunities in a post Covid-19 world, I see Panoply, a purpose driven listed company who I spoke for last year announcing a new acquisition and strong growth and I’m reminded of the Charity I’m a part of re-inventing part of how they deliver their life changing work (more on this below).

I see change, I see opportunity and I see the ability to make a positive impact on the world.

What are the messages you see and takeaway from the world? We get more of whatever it is that we focus on. And it takes conscious choice of what we allow to enter our world.

Tip: It’s your choice as what words and messages you take from the world - strengthen your choice by focusing on what you want to see more of.

The British Exploring Society is a charity which positively changes the lives of young people from a diverse range of backgrounds and one that I’m proud to be a part of as a member of their Development Board.

They, like all of us are adapting to change. Since real world expeditions have been cancelled, they have done brilliantly innovated by launching virtual expeditions.

Join us for a fireside chat with Rory Stewart,  British diplomat, author and politician, as he re-lives one of his most memorable and remarkable journeys in conversation with our CEO - Honor Wilson Fletcher MBE.

Ticket details / suggested donation (£25) below - it will be a fascinating talk.

Do join us.

Standard Life

I’m delighted to be invited back by Standard Life to be the first speaker in their Summer Series to speak to their financial advisor community this month. I spoke at a Standard Life event earlier this year and just found out I was the top rated speaker of the day (on a day which included Major Tim Peak as a speaker).

I’ll be exploring how we think about change and adaptability and what it means to treat our teams well. To lead from the front, creating a nurturing workplace and inspiring an optimistic future. This webinar is CII/PFS accredited and counts towards CPD records. We will be covering:

  • Discover how to become more resourceful

  • Develop a plan to manage your emotions in times of change and uncertainty

  • Explore the value of rituals and habits to create our own certainty

  • Consider the opportunities change can create

Would this talk be valuable for your teams, for your customers and other stakeholders around your business? Do get in touch.

It’s Coming Soon

I’m delighted to share that my new book will be launching very soon. Launch date is 16th July 2020. It’s a book for our times about teamwork.

The launch event will in London (if we’re allowed to meet then!) or online if we’re not. We have the bases covered!

It’s been three years in the making and I can’t wait to share the details.
