A Short Cut to Big Bold Mindset
This short piece is a musing on time and influence with one very simple hack that you can action right now.
Two foundation thoughts that shouldn’t be controversial:
1 - our time is limited and what we pay attention to matters. It really matters.
2 - the influences we give permission to enter your world make a huge difference to what you will think, how you feel and how you will then act/ shape your behaviours.
I’m hyper-mindful of the influences in my world which include who I spend time with, what I read, what I consume on social media etc.
I’m not the only one.
Twitter gives us a remarkable insight into what other people give permission to influence them.
Look at the people on Twitter that Tim Cook, CEO of Apple follows. Those 70 people didn’t happen by accident. They have been carefully cultivated to give him a perspective on the world.
Elon, the same with the 132 people he follows.
DJ Trump the same with the 49 people he follows.
Biden the same the the 47 people he follows.
This is definitely not a political piece btw!
If you want to know what and why someone thinks the way they do, look at their influences.
Just studying the people they follow will tell you a huge amount about that person.
Challenge Yourself
Just have a look now at who you follow (on whatever social platforms you’re active on).
What are those influences doing to you?
Are they the influences you want?
The Fun Hack
Want to think more like Elon?
Unsubscribe everyone you currently follow and follow exactly the same people he does.
Want your Big Bold Thinking to be along the lines of Elon, Tim Cook and Jeff Bezos?
Unsubscribe everyone you currently follow and follow exactly the same people they do.
Success leaves clues
One of the fastest hacks I know is to surround yourself by sharp bright minds. It’s accessible in a way that is so easy to do.
Why not run an experiment and see how you get on?
You could even have two Twitter accounts. One that follows Big and Bold and your current one. Switch between them for a week at a time and see what difference it makes.
If the whole exercise raises nothing more than increased attention to better influences, I’d say that’s worthwhile.
PS I’m running the experiment too!
PPS You could follow me on Twitter if you wanted. Barack Obama does.
Full disclosure - he follows a few more than those mentioned above!
