The Great Resignation

Be More Human and The Great Resignation

Change is in the air, but does it have to be that way?

Texas Professor Anthony Klotz predicts the “great resignation” in relation to team members who stayed put during the uncertainty of the pandemic and who are now getting ready to jump ship.

A study by Microsoft found that 41% of the global workforce would consider leaving their current employer within the next year.

Those should be concerning stats for any leader who wants to build and grow their team to take advantage of the massive opportunities that change always creates.

What’s the best antidote to avoiding top talent walking out the door? It’s not hard to know what it is and it can be a lot harder to put it into practice.

Research over many years consistently shows that the single most important motivating factor for any team member is that they feel genuinely cared for by their leader. Feeling cared for. It’s one of the most human needs there is.

Why do so many leaders (at all levels) get it wrong? It’s because results for too long have been the primary focus rather than people. And to state the obvious, its people who drive results. Not the other way around.

Tip: At our core, we all know how to be more human. So often, we’ve just forgotten how and need to be reminded. My simple question to any leader facing a challenge: “What would a human do in this situation?” Being more human is good for your team and that is good for business.

The Idea Espresso Hit

Disengaged teams for themselves.

Engaged teams work for each other.

Fresh Air and Hills

Once in a while, we all need to switch off and get fresh influences. I’m just back from three days with a small mastermind group of entrepreneurs where we walked and talked and kicked ideas around. In a Covid world the danger is we stay with the same influences. Once in a world, it’s essential to stir it up and get that fresh dose of energy, ideas and fresh air. As they say, steel sharpens  steel.
