Thank you & Some books on leadership & management

From the desk of Caspar:

Thank you

As we head towards the shortest days of the year and I hope some space to reflect on the past year, I wanted to say a huge thank you to you for allowing me to step into your world and to share ideas with you every few weeks.

It’s a huge privilege to be able to share the stories and ideas I’ve had the good fortune of either being a part of or have learned from others. There are many people involved who allow these ideas to come to life from the event bookers who’ve trusted me to speak for their audiences, to the leaders who have brought our team in to continue their #bigboldgoals journey through leadership and teamwork development to the brilliant agencies who I’ve worked with, to my fellow speakers for being on this journey and sharing wisdom and ideas and for the many friends and connections I'm lucky to have.

Here's to resting, relaxing and reflecting to be in the best shape possible to make 2022 the very best it can be with all the twists and turns it's certain to throw at us!

Last Minute Gifts!

With Christmas 🎄 round the corner I could mention how my books could be a great Christmas present, but seeing as you read this, the chances of you having heard about my books already is 100%!

Some of my friends on the speaking circuit have written some fabulous books and I can definitely recommend all of these as great reads. Here’s some that I’ve enjoyed reading. If you’re looking for a good gift for a learner, you can’t go far wrong with these. In no particular order...

Books On Leadership & Management

Inspired Leadership by Kevin Gaskell - one of the best business books I've read: I learnt a lot reading this.

The Mind Coach by Jamil Qureshi - Jamil has such a brilliant understanding of how the mind works and this book is packed with nuggets of wisdom.

Superfast by Sophie Devonshire - cracking insights and stories from a range of leaders. Her latest book with Ben Renshaw called Love Work next up on my reading list.

In Praise of Slow by Carl Honoré (and his more recent book Bolder) are both books that make you stop, reflect and challenge the way you think about things.

You Lead by Minter Dial is a fabulous collection of wisdom and insights on how to lead yourself better.

And Taming Tigers by Jim Lawless is a great read on how to master your emotions to tackle what's in front of you.

The danger of course with recommending books by friends is you end up leaving some off the list> if I've not included yours, nudge me and I’ll do a follow up post as there are so many fabulous insights out there from many brilliant people. These are the ones I had to hand in my office.

PS and if you've not read my latest book, you can read this punchy review of it by the superb Jo Wright and her impressive team at Coaching Culture Ltd. here.

Transformation Event Feedback

It’s lovely to finish the last event of the year with this lovely feedback from a transformation kick-off event.

"a big thank you for your outstanding intervention during our Virtual Seminar earlier today. The engagement in the Q&A showed how interested they were in the themes you shared. I found myself saying “as Caspar said this morning….” several times during our transformation discussion later that morning"

Transformation is such a core theme that sits at the heart of what I do and what we do as a team. As one of a few things I’ve immersed myself into this year, has been to really understand at a deeper level the latest academic thinking on Disruption and how to deal with it. I’ve been down many rabbit holes of learning - this one with Cambridge University was fun and as one way of learning and understanding its been good to be back in a classroom (albeit virtually) again.

I stand by the belief the only differentiator that any of us have is the speed at which we learn and this has never been more important than the exponential age we live in (more to come on this subject in 2022!). It does of course prompt the question to you (and me) of what do you want to learn next year and what do you need to learn?
