From the desk of Caspar:
Eyes up, Eyes Down
It’s that time of year for New Years Resolutions. They’re everywhere. Have you set any?
This time of year lends itself to them because of the time we have to collectively switch off and create space for reflection. Reflections lead to insights which often lead to new ideas and initiatives.
As a proponent of setting audacious goals - the type that makes people raise an eyebrow or two when you share them, I naturally have views.
I think that the notion of big goals and reflection isn’t a once a year thing, it’s a regular through the year process.
It’s what I think of as Eyes Up, Eyes Down.
Eyes Up is the part where you look up to see the goal in the distance, to check in, to make sure you’re headed in the right direction. It’s reflection, re-calibration and checking back to make sure the goal is still as exciting as it ever was.
Eyes Down is the part where you make it happen> it’s the detail, it’s the habits, it’s the small of amount of learning and progress that you make each day. It’s the bit that actually moves the dial.
It’s a continual process of Eyes Up, Eyes Down.
Whatever you choose to do, don’t wait until this time next year to do Eyes Up again. Why not set a diary note for a regular flick of the eyes - be that weekly, monthly or quarterly?
Recurring Patterns
Sticking with the theme of Eyes Up, Eyes Down, I was curious to see what the most common new years resolutions are. Predictably, they are the same year in, year out - source.
